Lights Out Fight Wear
~ Pat C.
How did the brand get started?
Lights Out Fight Wear was
started just over a year and a half ago. I have been training in MMA for around
four years now and was watching the sport grow right in front of me and saw an
opportunity. I threw around a number of names and kept coming back to Lights
Out and decided to run with it. The sport was on a tremendous rise and I took a
chance to be a part of it. That was how Lights Out began and the design process
started from there.
How did the company create the logo?
We sat down and wrote down
things we wanted to incorporate, things we liked, didn’t like, and narrowed it
down from there. Our designs have come a long way from the originals and we
have more coming very soon. The logo is still a work in process to be honest and
we are working on some changes but it has worked for us so far!
What types of MMA gear do you produce?
We currently produce t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, hats, MMA gloves, shorts, and rash guards. We are looking at expanding our line towards the end of the year and into 2010.
Who is involved in your company’s success?
I have done a lot of work to get Lights Out to where it is today but could not have done it without help. My girlfriend Kait does a lot of the admin stuff, I now have one designer working on most of my designs and have had a lot of help from friends and family, and our sales reps have worked hard to get the brand out there to this point. My martial arts instructor, Gerry DiSanto has been a big help and mentor along the way as well. We have had a lot of great help to this point and I couldn’t have done it without all of these people.
Are there other aspects of your business
you’d like to share?
We are trying to create our niche within the market as it is such a huge one. We are working towards having different designs and different colour schemes then the norm without straying from our target market. We are always working on new designs to keep the fans interested.
Is there another direction or any other
areas you’d like to take the brand?
The area that we are going to work on in the New Year is our women’s line. We have had women’s tank tops in the past that sold well and we want to have an entire women’s line. We also are going to have more casual wear for men.
What should we look for in the future?
Look for more creative Lights Out designs and creative
marketing. Also, look for Lights Out to be in more and more stores near you.
The main thing we have been working on lately is a different side of the
business, Lights Out Fighter Management. We are starting a management side to help
fighters get fights, secure them sponsorships, proper training, etc. We have
started signing fighters already and are getting them on cards across
Are there fans or friends you’d like to thank or give a shout out to?
I would like to thank
everyone who has supported us so far.
The fans at the MMA Expos picking up our gear, the stores taking on the brand
and the fighters wearing Lights Out in the ring. Again, thanks to friends and family who have
helped and have been supportive on this journey.
